Who is Reliant?

We were born in 1989 as a mission support agency for a small group of campus church planters. A lot's changed since then! (Less stonewashed jeans, for one).

Today we mobilize church planters and missionaries across like-minded missional groups and church-planting networks. As we've expanded our partnerships, we've adopted a new name. Yet our devotion to Jesus' command to "Go and make disciples..." remains. It's who we are.

I love Reliant because: We get to help mobilize missionaries here in the states and all over the world.

A favorite scripture of mine is: "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."  Micah 6:8

Right this minute I'm probably:On the phone with a Reliant missionary or a Reliant partner church pastor.

Who's won the Reliant office Fantasy Football league 2 out of 4 years? This guy!

I am responsible for…

As Missionary Resources Director, I am responsible for overseeing most of the "touch points" with our missionaries and partner church leadership teams. The Missionary Resources (MR) Team covers everything from connecting with new churches, assessing new missionaries, hiring, training for support raising, coaching through the support raising process and much more. On a day to day basis I am generally giving leadership and guidance to the MR Team, making hiring decisions with pastors, helping with transitions in the lives our missionaries, and thinking through next steps for Reliant. I feel thankful to have such a great team here at Reliant to lean on and serve with together. New Staff Trainings are my favorite times of year, helping missionaries young and old get started in their journey.

I lead today because…

I began serving with Reliant in 1998 as a campus missionary to Virginia Tech. During that time I was ordained and spent years pastoring at the campus. It was there that I saw first-hand how sometimes the mission and need are great, but how the laborers (and the financial support for those laboreres) were few. Around 2009 I started coming down to Orlando to serve as a "Field Trainer" for Reliant's New Staff Training. It was there I began to see how my gifting as a teacher could intersect with my desire to be a "minister in the moment" to missionaries at a crucial crossroad in their life. In 2012 my wife Sarah (and our two boys Benjamin and Nathaniel) moved to Orlando to take roles in the office, and we are thoroughly enjoying caring for the lives our our missionaries and office staff.

I am motivated by…

During 2007, when our campus at Virginia Tech was struck with a terrible tragedy, the needs we had always known were there became much more glaring. Who was going to care for these students? Who was going to show them the love , grace and forgiveness of Jesus Christ? There are so many places in the world where the need is great, but the ability to be sustained in ministry there is difficult: overseas missions, church plants, college churches, inner-city churches, rural churches, gospel-centered non-profits. We are so thankful to send people into these places through the support of a team of people who pray and financially support these great missionaries.
