In Eswatini, some of the most meaningful gospel moments have happened around dinner tables, on soccer fields, and during late-night game sessions. Levi Lettau shares what it has looked like for his family to leave behind familiarity and slowly build relationships with young men in their community through the everyday rhythms of friendship.
At the beginning of 2025, my wife Lieacha, our six-year-old daughter, and I stepped into a new chapter of life as we moved to Eswatini, a small country in Southeast Africa.
This was not a sudden decision. Back in 2021, we spent two weeks in Eswatini on a vision trip. What we thought would be a short visit became the beginning of something much bigger. When we returned to the U.S., we could not shake what God had stirred in our hearts. Over time, He began to gently but unmistakably uproot our lives.
With His peace and courage, we made decisions that did not always make sense on paper. We left our jobs, sold our belongings, and stepped away from comfort. Deep down, we knew we were not losing anything. We were stepping into purpose.
Even in the waiting, I felt restless in the U.S., carrying a growing conviction that God was calling us to Eswatini. Looking back now, I can say with confidence that obedience is always worth it.
From the moment we arrived, God made it clear that our focus was not to be on numbers but on people. He placed it on our hearts that quality matters more than quantity. So, we began simply by building relationships, spending time, listening, and being present.
We were welcomed with incredible warmth, especially by the youth in our community. Our local church’s youth pastor quickly became one of my closest friends, and together we have been able to invest in the lives of young men who are hungry for truth, for freedom, and for Jesus.
This past year has been filled with ordinary moments that God has used in extraordinary ways. Weekends playing soccer, evenings sharing meals, and late-night game nights opened the door to deeper conversations. Out of those moments came opportunities to pray together, fast together, study Scripture, and walk in true discipleship.
By the end of 2025, we witnessed God move powerfully in the lives of four young men who made the decision to follow Jesus. Hearing them boldly share their testimonies and declare their allegiance to King Jesus has been one of the greatest joys of our lives. There is nothing greater than being invited to take part in what God is doing in His eternal Kingdom.
Living out the Great Commission here by going, making disciples, baptizing, and teaching has been life-giving in every sense. We have seen the church grow not just in numbers but in depth, as people come to understand the truth of the gospel that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.
This is the good news. God made a way where there was no way, offering redemption to all people.
While 2025 was marked by incredible moments of joy and breakthrough, it also brought seasons of deep challenge, including times of disappointment and loss that tested our faith. Yet through it all, God’s grace sustained us. He met us in the valleys and kept us grounded on the mountaintops, reminding us that our hope is not found in circumstances or emotions but in Him alone.
As a family, we have learned to live with an eternal perspective, and in doing so, we have experienced what true blessing really means.
